The New Bern Southpaws had trouble keeping up with the Outer Banks Swinging Mullets in a 16-7 loss on Tuesday at Kafer Park as the Mullets swung their way to victory. The Swinging Mullets got on the board in the top of the second inning after Taylor Granitzki singled to left field, and Luke Blaydes grounded out, each scoring one run. The Mullets added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Andrew Merz was struck by a pitch, and Jordan Bonner grounded out, each also scoring one run. The Swinging Mullets then scored six runs on one hit in the top of the fifth inning to put themselves into a commanding lead. Bonner drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, an error scored one run, Blaydes drew a walk, scoring one run, and Michael Pattellis singled, scoring one run. They scored five runs on five hits in the top of the eighth inning. Bonner drew a walk, scoring one run, Colby Smart doubled, scoring two runs, and Granitzki singled, scoring two runs.
Nate Albanese earned the win for the Outer Banks Swinging Mullets.
